Adopt a Horse

Equine Outreach’s primary goal is to re-home and rehabilitate horses in need of placement into responsible, compassionate, forever homes.

Our adoption procedures are designed to ensure that the horses go to homes where they will receive appropriate and loving care.

Adoption Requirements & Process

  • Adopters must be at least 21 years old.

  • Adopters must understand the commitment you are making: financially, emotionally, and with your time.

  • Adopters must fill out an Adoption Application Form. The submission of this application, along with a non-refundable $25 fee, starts the review process for an adoptive home.

  • Contact us to schedule a site visit. This is required to make sure your facility meets the health and safety requirements for adoption (i.e. no barbed wire, no uncapped t-posts, shelter provided, etc.). It is also to be sure you and your chosen horse are a suitable match.

  • Once the adoption process is completed, the expectation is that you take the horse home within five days. After five days, the horse will be offered for adoption unless other arrangements are made with our Board of Directors.

  • If an adopted horse does not seem to be a good fit, please reach out to us to discuss the situation. Equine Outreach is committed to ensuring that our horses are placed in forever homes, so if things are not working out, we want to be part of the solution!

Adoption Fees & Hauling Cost

Adoption Fee: $500

Note: Adoption fees go directly to support the rescued horses at Equine Outreach. The above fees include the $25 application fee.

We make every effort to have adopted horses be current on their vaccinations, worming, and farrier work. You are responsible for any trainer or veterinarian checks prior to adoption.

Hauling Cost

  • $50 to deliver a horse in the Bend or Redmond area.

  • $100 or more to deliver a horse outside the Bend or Redmond area. (Longer hauls will be determined based on mileage.)
